New hydrogen strategy sets path for Australia to become a global H2 leader

The 2019 Australia Hydrogen Strategy focused on early foundations for industry growth. But technologies, markets and the international policy landscape have evolved rapidly in the past 5 years. Australia has many advantages but lacked incentives needed to drive economies of scale and build industry experience. The 2024 National Hydrogen Strategy tailored to the development of Australian industry and launched at the APAC Hydrogen Summit in Brisbane continue the work and leans into the adaptive approach it established to refocus on accelerating growth through supporting development at scale. The Australian government has responded through this revitalised strategy and the unprecedented support announced through the 2024/2025 budget with production incentives for renewable hydrogen as part of the $22.7 billion Future Made in Australia plan.
